The above is a guideline of the awards which may be made in claims for compensation.

The amount of compensation awarded depends upon individual injuries sustained, levels of pain and recovery periods, whether a full recovery is made or whether there are continuing symptoms and other factors which your solicitor will discuss with you.

Additionally, there may be a factor called contributory negligence, which may reduce the actual amount of damages you receive.

For example, in a road traffic accident, if you have suffered injury and you were not wearing a seatbelt, if the medical evidence states that your injuries would not have been as severe if you had worn a seatbelt, then any award of damages will be reduced (typically by 25%).
