Accidents
Slip / Trips
People can slip and / or fall over and suffer injury in all kinds of places. If you have been a victim of a slip, fall or trip, that wasn't your fault, you may be able to make a personal injury compensation claim.
Examples include:
- slipping and tripping on defective pavements
- falling down a pothole in a road
- defective or missing utility grids
- slipping on wet floors in buildings or premises with public access, e.g. supermarkets, hospitals, public houses, restaurants, schools and many other types of building, whether by fluid spillages or over produce/goods left on floors
Local authorities are under a duty to ensure pavements and public highways are in a safe condition for public use. They have an obligation to inspect and maintain the highways (roads and pavements).
Owners or occupiers of buildings or premises are under a duty to ensure that all lawful visitors to premises are safe.
Employers are under a duty to ensure that floors shall be free from holes, be even and not slippery. Also, as far as possible, all traffic routes should be free from obstructions and from any article or substance that may cause a person to slip, strip or fall.
If you suffer an accident in a building, or at work, you should ensure that the circumstances of the accident, details of your injuries and details of any witnesses are entered into the Accident Report Book.
